2025/2026 Monaghan Juniors short Mat Bowling Tournament
All roads led to Ballybay Bowling Club and their club hall at the Tullycorbett Community Centre on Saturday 13th December 25, where the future of the Monaghan’s Short Mat Bowlers gathered to play their annual singles and doubles tournaments.
Twenty, up and coming bowling stars entered their names, representing their clubs, Ardaghey, Clontibret , Derryvalley and Sliabh Beagh and play got underway in the early afternoon.
First up was the Pairs Competition with ten ends to be played . All ten ends were eagerly contested with some of the games trading shot for shot on the mat and point for point on the score board.
As each game ended and results came through, the semi finals lined up with
Jonathon & Edward (Clontibret Club) playing Dillon & Daniel (Aghabog Club)
and
Hanna & Lucy (Clontibret & Ardaghey Club) playing Ella & Lauren (Ardaghey Club)
Two great games were played with Dillon & Daniel and Ella & Lauren eventually coming out as winners. The final between these two pairs will be played on finals night scheduled for 2026.
Play stopped for a well-deserved lunch break with chips , nuggets and sausages enjoyed by all.
Play re-commenced again with the Singles Competition. Also played over 10 ends with juniors (assisted where needed) marking the games.
Similar to the pairs, this competition proved to be very exciting with every player giving their best, which resulted in some surprising outcomes. As this competition ran on into the late afternoon, the semi finals were not played on the day and will be re-scheduled for a later date.
A big thank you to the Ballybay Club and Tullycorbett Community Centre for the use of their mats and facilities, to the Parents , Grandparents & other Family Members who came along to support and helped out. To Teresa McSkeane and Paul and Teresa Greenan for organising a very successful and enjoyable tournament and the food on the day.
