On Saturday 4th of January Monaghan junior bowlers travelled to Shaws  Bridge, Belfast  to  play in a rinks competition. Monaghan entered two u14 teams and two u18 teams .  Our two u14 teams played some good bowls and had some tight games but wasn’t enough to take them to Final. This experience will stand to these young teams for years to come .

Our u18 two rink teams had a fantastic day with Tommy Winters’s  team narrowly beaten by 1 shot to play the other Monaghan team in the final . Jamie West’s team was unbeaten on the day to reach the final against the Mighty North West.  And what a final it was with North West picking up 1 shot in the first and second ends. Monaghan got off the mark by picking up 2 shots in the third end to level the match. In the fourth end Monaghan picked up two shots to put them ahead and in the 5th end North West picked up 1 shot . So we headed  into the 6th and final end  with Monaghan leading by 1 shot. Both leads on each team left the Jack wide open so Monaghan’s second went for the Jack with his first bowl but missed and same with the North West lead. Monaghan’s number 2 Ruairi Farmer from Latton went for the jack again and took it straight to the ditch to clinch victory. Well done to all Monaghan players who took part and to the coaches who travelled on the day and for their commitment in all the evenings spent coaching. The future is bright for Monaghan Zone.
